Subhas Gupta, MD, CM, PhD, FRCSC, FACS is an internationally recognized plastic and reconstructive surgeon, educator, and researcher. Since 2004, he has served as Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Loma Linda University, where he holds the Reginald R. Sherrill Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery and is a Professor of Surgery at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine.

Dr. Gupta earned his medical degree from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, Canada. He went on to complete nearly a decade of postgraduate subspecialty training, including residencies and fellowships in General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hand and Microsurgery, and Aesthetic and Laser Surgery — while simultaneously earning a PhD in Medical Informatics, reflecting a career-long commitment to bringing scientific rigor and technology into surgical care.

Beyond his own operating room, Dr. Gupta has held senior institutional leadership roles at Loma Linda University Medical Center, including Chief of Surgical Services and Surgical Chief Medical Officer. As Residency Program Director, he has personally trained a generation of plastic surgeons now practicing across the country — a role he describes as inseparable from his identity as a clinician.

His clinical and research interests are wide-ranging: complex wound reconstruction and skin substitutes, hand and microsurgery, and aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. In his aesthetic practice, Dr. Gupta favors a considered, technology-assisted approach — incorporating endoscopic, laser, and ultrasound-assisted techniques where they improve precision, safety, and recovery — always in service of natural, proportionate outcomes rather than a single fixed "look."

Dr. Gupta's academic contributions include more than 300 peer-reviewed publications cited over 6,000 times, and he continues to lead research into regenerative wound reconstruction, facial fat grafting, and the emerging role of artificial intelligence in surgical care. He remains active on editorial and review boards for leading surgical journals and has been recognized with multiple institutional and departmental honors over his career.

Patients frequently describe Dr. Gupta's approach as unhurried and exacting — a product, he says, of training residents: "You cannot teach a technique you don't fully understand yourself, and you cannot operate on a patient you haven't fully listened to first."
